Does anyone know if this home will still be approved with no income?

Can someone tell me if I put in a change of income form will this home still be within my voucher range. I have been waiting on inspection and sleeping in my car and paying for a hotel when I can. I’ve lost my job due to my situation and now I currently don’t have an income. Will the home still be within my voucher range with $0 income?

Many housing authorities do charge a minimum monthly rent even with 0 income. You need to contact your advisor at the housing authority

This is beyond Reddit's paygrade. You need to contact your housing authority ASAP due to the change in income.

I don't think HUD allows 0 income. I have heard of people being turned down because of that.

The payment to the owner is supposed to be locked to 30% of your income. That includes what you're paying for utilities.

My PHA does. I have processed loads of zero income renewals and changes. They even get a utility reimbursement check every month from us if they are zero income.

The lowest HCV voucher is $50; it’s possible to have zero income and still rent the unit listed above … but OP needs to be more transparent. She can’t fool around with HCV / HUD regulations … and she doesn’t get to pick and choose which rules she follows…

(The problem here isn’t zero income; the issue is that OP did not inform her housing worker of her job termination-if it’s been more than 10 days, this could be a problem. )

And it sounds like you’ve never seen HCV paperwork ? Every application and annual recertification packet has zero income forms 😉…

Yeah here in Florida that’s an unofficial “rule”. They require income to cover basic living expenses. This can be TANF, family contributions…doesn’t have to be a job.

I hope this isn’t a move to work housing authority as they have higher tenant contributions.

The rent is less than the payment standard so you should still qualify for the unit. You need to confirm with your worker ASAP though.

It really varies, some states or even counties will base your voucher off your income. Others give you a voucher based on family size. You’ll have to call and ask unfortunately. They’ll work with you.

You need to contact your worker. At my PHA I worked at, once the voucher was issued, if you hadn’t leased in yet, you were required to submit a pay change after the move. But every PHA is different. Contact your worker sooner rather than later.

Yes it is possible I know somebody paying 1 dollar for rent section 8 will pay the whole thing if no income

I had a portion of $0 for a short time, but always check with your person. N then it was raised to $75, n then once I was more stable again, it had gone up.

Impossible to answer because housing authorities are different but you need to tell them your income is gone first. What’s your credit? That might be a bigger issue because at least here they want good credit even with sections 8

Are you barely getting the assistance & passed through eligibility? If so, you better get your docs ready for your change of income to make the adjustment interim because if you don’t, you are still responsible in making the tenant portion payment and whatever change you want to do will be effective following month. Same thing goes if you already have the HCV, you should know the rules by now after a year of your first lease.
