Has anyone had any experience with the choice voucher as head of household with scholarship money coming back?

With all of my expenses without rent included I will have close to $650. With the remainder of my scholarships, I will only be able to last until December. If housing increases my rent portion, I will not be able to live while going to school and will have to drop out.

I am working during the summer while taking two summer courses but I can barely save anything for next semester. I am a single mom with no family or close friends. I have no one to watch my toddler for a few hours to study so I have to rely on daycare hours to study alone. (Obviously I do work with him around but it’s not the quickest most efficient).

I worked so hard for these scholarships. I am two years away. I pray they do not increase this rent portion or I am completely Effed!

Find the admin plan on your housing authority's website and look it up.

You should contact your housing authority regarding their reporting requirements for one-time payments, aka scholarship reimbursements. Some authorities will tell you it’s not required (like mine) because it’s one-time, and others will count them as assets.

are you claiming your childcare expenses during your annual recertification? That could be a help in calculating your portion.

Housing doesn’t increase your rent portion, your landlord/property owner does. It’s 100% up to them; my landlord raised my rent $400 in May after 13 years - (a 25% increase!)- even though he has raised in the past as well.
The housing authority did NOTHING to stop him (they can ask it to be lower, or refuse it for cause).

Regardless, you can’t count on not having any emergency expenses - especially with a child!!!

Talk to your housing worker about your scholarships. The extra is supposed to be for housing and books etc, but you’re living at home and have a child .. are you working?
