Is the Section 8 program vouchers ending? Even for disabled?

Hello everyone, I’m new to this group, much like many of you I’m currently on section 8 and am disabled. I’ve heard now several sources saying that the program is ending or having a major budget cuts, but this won’t affect the elderly and disabled, I can’t really see a reliable news source covering the situation. I guess I’d like to ask what are the facts around it and will there be cuts and will it harm everyone? This program is such a life saver for millions of people. Yes I know some may abuse the program, but it also keeps millions of us off the streets and I know sadly some folks have to wait years for the program to open up availability. Right now it's just notes on paper that congress can put into law

They are considering limit housing vouchers for 2 years max unless elderly or disabled

More concerning imo is putting states in charge of decisions that hud has been in charge of...

I expect conservative states to try to get rid of small area fair market rent valuation.... That will affect even disabled and elderly using vouchers

Trump’s Fiscal Year 2026 budget proposal, which calls for shocking cuts to critical federal housing programs. The proposal would cut funding for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, by $26 billion and effectively end housing assistance for families in Public Housing, Section 8 and Project-Based Rental Assistance, housing for the elderly, and housing for people with disabilities by block granting and imposing time limits on this reduced funding. So it can affect disabled and seniors. voting has consequences and everyone is feeling it whether they voted to save it or voted red to end it all. But these are the worst times since the 80s 70s all these drastic cuts

It's so crappy the way we are given just enough information to be legitimately worried, but not enough to know what the actual plans will be. (probably because they don't know either)

As someone who is 56 and still waiting for the outcome of my SSDI claim, I am wondering if I'm "elderly" enough because my guess is disability won't count without the federal stamp of approval.
